E-commerce Website Examples
Below are some examples of businesses who sell goods online through their website. They are most commonly linked to a payment gateway such as Paypal, Sagepage or Worldpay. For some businesses their e-commerce sites is the sole revenue generator for the business. For others the website may be one part of a business which may also run a shop or factory.
Airlinktransformers.com
Airlink Transformers is an Essex based manufacturer and retailer of electrical transformers. The project was a lot more than just developing the shop. They needed a sophisticated online admim system to manage products, sales and custom orders. The project started with a long period of consultation to establish the best way the system could help with day to day admin.
The result was an admin system with many more features than I can list here. Some of the more common features are: a facility to make mass updates on products; a facility to relate custom add-ons to products; a facility to create one-off bespoke orders to email to individual clients; a section to manage country delivery prices and vat codes.
Booksyouneed.co.uk
'Books you need' was the brainchild of Bristol based books wholesaler Bookmark. Part of their business is supplying specialist books to students, academics and professionals in the South West. While looking for ways to streamline their business they spotted a potential niche in the market.
The idea they brought to me was for an online shop that catered for bulk delivery to a single address to save on delivery costs. As many students on a course would buy the same text books, their idea was to take multiple orders online and then bulk deliver to the campus without the need for delivery costs. Given the weight of academic books the savings were substantial and therefore very attractive for students to purchaser through them.
